Simpson breaks 25 year record to win Inverness Half Marathon

ROBBIE Simpson broke a course record which stood for 25 years to win the 2018 Inverness Half Marathon on Sunday.

The Deeside runner, who will represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Australia next month, crossed the finish line in 64 minutes 27 seconds.

He beat the previous record set by Peter Fleming in 1993 by five seconds.

Kristian Jones of Swansea Harriers came second in 64 minutes 58 seconds with Cameron Milne of Central Athletics Club third in 67 minutes 21 seconds.

Katie White of Garscube Harriers won gold in the women's race in a time of 75 minutes 58 seconds.

Shona McIntosh of Hunters Bog Trotters was second in 76 minutes 46 seconds with Jennifer Elvin of Metro Aberdeen Running Club third in 81 minutes eight seconds.
