JOE Chalmers first ever goal for the club was the highlight of Inverness Caledonian Thistle's emphatic win as they moved into play-off contention with another impressive victory.

Inverness burst out of the blocks straight from the kick off when Gary Warren came close to finding the net when his header was tipped over the bar by Jack Leighfield.

But from the resultant corner kick, Iain Vigurs managed to find the back of the net after the ball came off Brad Mackay who connected with Liam Polworth’s corner to nod past the goalkeeper.

Queen of the South should have equalised when Scott Mercer’s cross into the box found Shaun Rooney's head which teed up Stephen Dobbie who missed a sitter from six yards.

ICT doubled their advantage just before the half hour mark as Polworth’s corner was headed out of the box and found Chalmers.

From 25 yards he fired not the hardest of low drives.

But the ball went straight through a crowded box which fooled an unsighted goalkeeper to find the bottom right hand corner of the net.

Queens started brightly in the second half when Dobbie run on to a Connor Murray pass into the box and had a decent shot which forced Ridgers to dive to his right and clutch the ball from the air to deny them pulling one back.

But Inverness killed the game off on the hour mark when Polworth zoomed down the right wing before cutting inside and laying off for Aaron Doran who finished off from 15 yards.

The Doonhammers pulled one back when Owen Bell headed a Scott Mercer cross into the net from close range but Caley were never in danger of throwing away victory.
