INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle’s dreams of returning to the Premiership next season faded further as they lost at Dunfermline Athletic.

Teenager Cameron Harper was given his debut after he replaced Riccardo Calder who was originally named in the starting 11 suffered an injury during the warm-up.

However the teenager’s first start lasted only 240 seconds when he suffered an injury and had to be accompanied off the park and was replaced by Brad McKay.

Before that Iain Vigurs conceded a free kick on the edge of the box when he brought down Kallum Higginbotham.

James Craigen made ICT pay with a free kick which curled around the defensive wall into the bottom left corner of the net to give Dunfermline the lead.

ICT had a bright start to the second half when Aaron Doran’s guided Collin Seedorf’s cross towards the bottom left corner from 12 yards forcing Lee Robinson to make a good save.

Dunfermline responded when James Vincent set up Craigen at the edge of the box and his powerful low drive forced Mark Ridgers to parry the ball out for a corner with a lunging save.

Craigen went close again when he connected with Higginbotham’s cross but his shot went inches past the left hand post.

Carl Tremarco came to Caley Thistle’s rescue after Ridgers failed to catch a cross into the box which he fumbled to the feet of Declan Macmanus who shot at goal. But the defender managed to hack his shot away from crossing the line to keep the deficit to one.

Athletic were then denied by the woodwork when Macmanus hit the post after connecting with Nicky Clark’s cross from close range in the final minutes.

But ICT rarely threatened to find an equaliser as they are now only six points above Dumbarton in the relegation play-off zone.
