Traffic was disrupted this morning when an NHS Highland van went on fire on the new section of the West Link Road.
A unit from Inverness fire station attended the incident after being called out at 7.38am.
Police and the ambulance service were also alerted.
The van driver managed to take the van off the busy road and park it in the large riverside layby between Tesco Ness-side and the Highland Rugby Club.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames with hose reel jets and everything was under control by 7.55am.
The van driver was said to have escaped injury, but a spokeswoman for NHS Highland said he was being checked out at Raigmore Hospital's A&E as a precaution.
She added: " We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this fire."
