CALEY Thistle have made it into the top six of the Clydesdale Bank SPL – for the first time in their history.

The Highlanders were on the brink of an upper half finish after an Andrew Shinnie goal and a Billy McKay penalty helped them win 2-1 against rivals Ross County on Saturday.

Dundee United’s 1-1 draw with neighbours Dundee on Sunday was enough to confirm that Terry Butcher’s team cannot be caught, given the remaining fixture permutations.

Inverness CT’s final two pre-split games are Hibernian away on March 30 and a home date with St Johnstone the following week.

County, meanwhile, will secure their top six spot if they see off Kilmarnock on Dingwall a week on Saturday.
