DOZENS of people sat down to a three-course Christmas Day lunch after taking up an open invitation issued by Inverness Cathedral.
It is the second year running volunteers at the cathedral have organised the festive feast for anyone who wishes to join them – including elderly people, families, those on their own, or people who would not otherwise have Christmas lunch.
Cathedral Provost, Rev Sarah Murray, said about 50 people attended the meal which was served in the Old Boys’ School in the cathedral grounds. It also included performances by Bruce Macgregor, of Blazin’ Fiddles, and gifts for everyone.
"The lunch was great and we had a good crowd of volunteers and guests," she said. "There were different people from different places and for different reasons but all had a good time and a great meal. We all enjoyed the music from Bruce Macgregor.
"I would like to say a huge thank you to all those who volunteered to spend their Christmas in the company of others and to help with all the practical things such as serving and washing up. New friendships were made and possibilities for 2018."
