Clachnacuddin have strengthened their squad for the Highland League’s final run-in by signing Ross County youngster George Robesten on loan.

The 18-year-old left-sided player spent the first half of the season at Nairn County, where he first met current Lilywhites boss Conor Gethins.

It was a successful spell at Station Park for Robesten, who scored three goals before the deal was cut short due to injury.

Now fit once again, though, he has returned to the Highland League with Clach, and the teenager says he is delighted to be given the opportunity to accumulate more experience at this level.

“I am delighted to have the chance to express myself at a club like Clachnacuddin,” Robesten said.

“It’s great to link back up with Conor, he is someone I worked with previously and look forward to learning from until end of the season.”

Gethins himself added: “I am thrilled to get George in, he is an added dimension to how we can play, and with his pace and fitness we will be a massive threat for any opposition.

“He will take the pressure off two or three others during the game to produce some individual magic, he is someone I played with previously so know exactly what he is capable of.”

Robesten has already made his debut for the Lilywhites, going straight into the squad for Wednesday night’s trip to Brora Rangers and coming on as a second-half substitute.

It was not the result either Robesten or Clach would have wanted, though, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat.

Martin Maclean was the difference maker at Dudgeon Park, finding the net just after the half-hour mark with what proved to be the winning goal.

Where disappointment reigned during the week, though, this weekend offers up an opportunity for the Lilywhites to get back to winning ways.

They are due to go on the road again, this time to bottom of the table Strathspey Thistle.

It is already highly unlikely that the Jags – who have won just two league games all season – will be able to catch up with Clach before the end of the campaign.

A win to make that a mathematical impossibility as soon as possible would nevertheless be welcomed at Grant Street Park, though, and allow them to focus on catching sides above.
