Captain John Hutchinson, a retired British Airways Concorde captain and well-known aviation broadcaster, will give his talk to help the Fresson Trust raise funds. "We are very grateful to Captain Hutchinson for his generous offer to travel north to give this lecture," said Forres-based Fresson Trustee David Morgan. "As a charity, part of our aim is to generate funds to help young people from Moray and the Highlands and Islands meet part of the cost of training for a career in aviation. "I'm sure Captain Hutchinson's lecture will be well received and help boost our funds." Capt Hutchinson joined the RAF in 1955 and flew the Avro Shackleton before becoming a flying instructor on Jet Provosts. He joined British Airways in 1966 as a co-pilot on the Boeing 707 and 747 fleets and gained his first command on VC10s in 1976. His first contact with Concorde was in 1977 when he joined the exclusive group of pilots qualified to fly the aircraft, then spent the next 15 years with them until retirement. During that time he became a Concorde route check captain and a British Airways pilot selector. He has flown over 70 different aircraft types and still keeps his hand in by flying an Auster Aiglet which he shares with two friends. The illustrated talk, "Concorde - The Icon", will take place at the Waterside Hotel in Inverness at 7.30pm on Thursday, November 19. Tickets cost £10, including light refreshments, and can be reserved by calling 01349 862476. |
