An Inverness businesswoman is set to capitalise on the chance discovery she made while on holiday in Malaysia. For when Elizabeth MacKay came across the natural cure-all which Malaysians have been using for hundreds of years, she could not believe her luck, and figured if it worked for people there, why should it not work at home. Elizabeth was living with a family on the paradise island of Langkawi when she noticed the grandmother, aged 83, had the wrinkle-free skin of a teenage girl which she attributed to an ancient folk remedy. Elizabeth, of Great Glen Lodge, Lochend, decided she had to find out more, and discovered the old lady was using gamat, one of the best-kept secrets of the sea which natives have been using for centuries. Gamat is the name given to the golden sea cucumber and used in various combinations it can treat ailments ranging from high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, rheumatism and lack of energy. And when the natural extracts from the gamat are mixed with those of birds' nests, it increases the human growth hormone giving enhanced sexual performance. If that is not enough, it can increase muscle mass, give a 14 per cent weight loss after six months and decrease wrinkles. Elizabeth told the Highland News: "I discovered this purely by accident when I was on holiday and decided to investigate it further when I came home. I reckoned if it worked for the Malaysians there was no reason why the Scots should not benefit from it. "I gave it to people here to try out and they all raved about the benefits they had gained from using it - destressing effects, increased energy and sexual enhancement. It's just magic." Elizabeth is awaiting delivery of the first batch of the potion from Malaysia for distribution in this country. She added: "One lady who tried it had been very ill in hospital and was on a course of drugs. After taking a trial course of one of the gamat products she is no longer on the drugs and is much better now." But apart from the general health benefits of the golden sea cucumber concoctions, Elizabeth reckons there will be a great demand for it from people wanting to put a bit of spice in their life. "The people that have tried it out for me have said it has certainly given them that extra vroom, vroom," she says. "I suppose you could call it a bit of Far Eastern promise." |
