UNSION say the plans will see 64.4 posts go in Education Culture & Sport, 28-9 jobs in Social Work 28.9 posts 10 jobs inTransport Environment & Community Services.

"Although assurances have been given that posts in Social Work and Transport will be deleted through natural wastage and redeployment we are unclear if it will be achievable in Education Culture and Sport without risking Redundancies," a spokeswoamn said>

"UNISON are also concerned as to the impact on workloads for staff who will remain, with cuts leading to unachievable targets and added Stress in the workplace."

UNISON has already received representations from the ECS staff, gravely concerned over their future and the future of the front line services they deliver.

The cuts will see the deletion of posts currently occupied by staff in Adult Learning - Community Learning and Development, and numerous staff in Community Learning & Leisure.

These cuts will impact on services such as Libraries, Health Living Centres, The Janny’s Hoose, Art Centres, Community Halls and Adult Learning.

"These concerns are being voiced by our members who are currently delivering valuable front line services to the public and as a member led Trade Union, UNISON shares these concerns.

"These cuts are due to be debated by the full Council on the 12th February 2009 and these issues must be raised to ensure that our members and the services they deliver are not irreparably damaged by these proposals.

"It is unsettling that at a time when the UK & Scottish Government are proposing Public Sector investment to reduce the blight of unemployment, The Highland Council is considering the deletion of valuable Jobs."
