Details have still to be finalised but an official announcement from Buckingham Palace is imminent. Princess Anne will visit the £4.7 million Cawdor Primary School on Wednesday, October 31, and then she will officially open the new £3.7 million community centre for Nairn which replaces the existing centre which closes its doors for the last time on October 15. The new Cawdor school opened its doors to staff and 120 pupils in August. The multi-purpose building has six primary classrooms, two halls and dedicated rooms for community groups. The completion of the Nairn Community Centre marks the end of nearly a decade of work by the volunteers governors. The site of the new building is a stone's throw away from the old centre which was once a church and then the local drill hall. While officials are still tight lipped and unwilling to confirm the royal visit, it is understood talks were taking place with Buckingham Palace to confirm the details of Princess Anne's visit earlier this week. A spokesman for the community centre said: "The new building is a wonderful facility which accommodates all our existing user groups and of course we will be able to accommodate many more. Access for elderly was one of the major problems at the old centre and of course the new building is state of the art and is accessible to all." The board of governors of the centre have appointed Sandra Morrison as it's new manager. Sandra was formerly manager at Culloden Community Centre. On October 18, the Earl of Wessex will be carrying out engagements in Inverness, however details of his visit are still to be finalised. |
