Police are warning motorists of potential delays during the Nairn Games

MOTORISTS are being warned of potential delays on the roads due to the Nairn Games next Saturday.

The A96 Viewfield east to the roundabout at St Ninian Road, Marine Road to the Games field at the Links will be closed at 12.30pm for a short period to allow the parade and massed pipe bands to proceed to the games field.

Pedestrians are being reminded that they should continue to use the pavements during this time to ensure their safety.

The half marathon will also commence at around this time following the traditional route via Lochloy Road to Bankend Farm and return and will be strictly marshalled.

About 4.45pm the parade and massed bands will march from the arena via Marine Road, across King Street, Gordon Street and onto the High Street to the Town House where again a short road closure will result as they cross the A96.

Area Commander Acting Chief Inspector Murdo MacLeod said: "Nairn Games is probably the biggest local event in the summer calendar for this area.

"Whilst some disruption through Nairn is inevitable, police and games organisers will ensure that this is kept to a minimum, however a little patience may be required from both motorists and pedestrians during peak times."
