THE site for Scotland’s newest prison has been confirmed - with Milton of Leys now formally ruled out.
As the Inverness Courier previously revealed Scottish Prison Service (SPS) bosses had been leaning towards an alternative site close to Inverness Centre (formerly Inverness Retail Park) after earlier plans for Milton of Leys sparked furious protests from locals.
The news that Stratton will provide the base for a new state-of-the-art facility on a site to the rear of the retail park was officially confirmed yesterday.
SPS chief executive Colin McConnell said: “An agreement has now been concluded with the site owners and SPS intend to pursue a planning application for the site in due course. The application for the site will of course include the normal community consultation processes.
“SPS do not intend to pursue any further interest in the site at Milton of Leys.”
