HIGHLAND Council has released the amount of expenses claimed by its councillors in the last financial year.
Sutherland councillor Linda Munro was the biggest claimant overall in 2011-12 for expenses and lodged a £15,041 bill, £8,000 of which was for travel.
Former council leader Michael Foxley was the next highest with £14,937 and more than £9,000 was mileage payments made to the Lochaber veteran.
Third highest claim was paid to the retired transport, environmental and community services committee chairman John Laing who received £14,304. The roads boss from Skye aptly had the biggest travel expenses total at £10,150.
The lowest claiming councillor was Inverness Ness-side’s Alasdair Christie who for the second year in a row did not seek any expenses on top of his £19,962 salary as the former vice-chairman of the housing and social work committee.
The Liberal Democrat, who is also the manager of Inverness Citizens Advice Bureau, said it was a personal decision because he received enough money from his salary.
