BLACK smoke engulfed Inverness on Saturday, after a Lotland Street garage owner accidentally set fire to his workshop.
The building and contents, including a van and three cars at The Tyreshop, on the Longman Industrial Estate were destroyed, and fire crews tackled the blaze for over five hours.
A static caravan and several other vehicles suffered heat damage after the fire, which broke out at around 1.40pm.
Tyreshop owner Sala Ali was welding a customer’s vehicle when the fire began, and tried to fight the flames with water, but managed to escape to safety when they got out of control.
Nobody was injured in the incident, which fire crews extinguished using two ground monitors, one aerial platform, three main jets, two hosereel jets, breathing apparatus and thermal imaging cameras.
