Dad had screwdriver when he threatened man who jilted his daughter

Sheriff CourtAN Inverness man was holding a screwdriver in the street when hethreatened a man who had jilted his daughter, a court was told this week.

But Sheriff Margaret Neilson decided to admonish Hugh Mackenzie after hearing the unusual circumstances in Inverness Sheriff Court.

Mackenzie (66) of Rosehaugh Road admitted behaving in a manner likely to cause fear and alarm on November 24.

Depute Fiscal David Bernard said he came out of his house and shouted at a man who was speaking to people across the street: “Your days are numbered – you won’t see what’s coming” while holding the screwdriver.

Craig Wood solicitor said Mackenzie disliked the man for a number of reasons.

He said the man had become engaged to his daughter and extracted £200 from her then went off with another woman.

He said Mackenzie’s daughter attempted suicide and another daughter was being treated for cancer, while his wife was in New Craigs hospital after a breakdown.
