COMPUTER users are being warned to be on their guard against bogus scammers who claim to be police demanding cash for viewing illegal images.

Police in Inverness say people should be aware of the computer scam that has been reported to them.

The scam involves a pop-up message on personal computers from perpetrators alleging to be from Met or Yorkshire Police and that the user is required to pay £100 immediately as they have been viewing illegal images.

Northern Constabulary received two reports on Monday, and explained that no police force would contact people in such a way and would never request money directly.
