The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) in Inverness was forced to cancel a scheduled donating session on Wednesday at its centre at Raigmore Hospital.
The service, which normally puts out a call for more donors at this time of year due to traditionally low stocks, wrote to regular blood donors to inform them about the cancellation to prevented wasted journeys.
Lynne Kidd, the service’s Head of Public Affairs, said the reduced service it was operating would still ensure the availability of essential supplies of blood, tissues and cells, and key clinical services.
She said SNBTS has ensured that hospitals are well stocked with blood. For urgent situations SNBTS will be able to receive and prepare orders and "blue light" delivery service for emergency situations will be available.
