Jacobite Cruises are truly breathtaking

Jacobite Cruises runs tours to Urquhart Castle, through stunning scenery.

IF you want to try and get up close and personal with Nessie, there's no better way to do it than on Jacobite Cruises.

The award-winning company has been sailing on Loch Ness for 35 years and it's a slick operation.

We opted for the hour long "Inspiration" cruise which leaves the dock at the Clansman Hotel and takes passengers up to Urquhart Castle and back again.

The trip was simply breathtaking and gives a completely different perspective on the loch and surrounding landscape.

For those who aren't equipped with sturdy sea legs, the two-decked boat has a very comfortable cosy inside area, complete with bar selling an array of hot and cold drinks and snacks.

For others who want a breath of fresh air and for the best chance of spotting the elusive monster, there is plenty of space outside with a lower covered deck and an open upper deck which is must even if just for a few minutes to take in the truly astounding views.

Aside from the scenery, the staff need to be commended too. Our boat was full to bursting and the organisation of making sure the right passengers got off at the right points would have put the most diligent of people into a spin. However, the staff left everything ship shape.

And they didn't forget their little tourists either as all children on board were given a goody bag complete with colouring book and pencils.

Whether you are a local or a tourist, a trip with Jacobite Cruises is must.

Prices on the 'Inspiration' tour which we took are: Adult 12, Child 9.50, Student 11, Senior 11, Family Ticket 37.

Available until October 2.
