HAIR stylists from an Inverness salon are ditching their scissors and donning their trainers in a bid to raise some cash for cancer sufferers in the Highlands.

For a team of six hairdressers who work at Toni and Guy on Union Street will be trekking 13 miles across the city centre when they take part in annual fundraiser, the Bra Nicht Walk, which raises money for cancer care in the area.

Emma Martin (38) manager of the salon explained she was approached by one of the organisers of the walk, and immediately wanted to be involved.

She said: "Denise Sutherland, who helps to organise the walk came into the shop and asked if we wanted to help out. I said yes straight away and rallied up the stylists in the shop. It's such a great cause and I always think it's great to get involved and give something back."

She added: "Every family is touched by cancer in one way or another, so I feel it's important to lend a hand when possible."

Emma, who is also a "strength and style" consultant for Toni and Guy, said : "As a strength style consultant I regularly work with cancer patients. Obviously losing your hair is a very emotional process and we can help out by such things as cutting wigs and massaging and washing hair. We can also advise patients about wigs and where to buy them."

And the salon has donated a cut and blow dry for a raffle prize which will be drawn at the event itself.

Emma said: "It's nice to have your hair done in a salon, so hopefully this will be an extra incentive to take part."
